Austrian National Assembly  Election  24:   Total Joy, Utter Shock

Text: Irmgard Seidler

VotingPop:  6.346.059  of which 62.706 live outside country. Voting Age: 16 years, Voter turnout has increased to 78+ percent,

Austrians are indeed split :  Between those voters who are jumping for joy because their ultra rightwing Party FPÖ (Freiheitliche Partei) achieved its best ever results  and those voters who are highly alarmed about this outcome.

On the Ballot:  Besides the established ÖVP 26.32 % – lost 11.14 (conservatives), SPÖ 21.12% – lost 0,06 (social democrats), FPÖ 28,9% – won 12.73 (freedom party, rightwing), GRÜNE 8,19% – lost 5,71(greens), NEOS 9,11% – won 1,01(neoliberals)

KPÖ  (communists), LMP (Marlene Petrik ex Green, split over Corona issues), BIER Party (mainly in Vienna), KEINE (none of the others)   did not reach target of 5 percent

In view of these results and the demographic changes we find it disturbing that we Green Seniors, being the founding generation of Greens, have virtually no say in the Green Party (except in a few provinces). We are not represented in multiple statutory  Social Partner Organisations, we do not feature in the media, we are virtually invisible as Green Seniors: A simply change in national law would-could remedy the fact.  Whether this  attitude changes , remains to be seen!  Irmgard Seidler  Austria
